Special Merits

Certain concepts require certain merits to be set. Some of these cost points, so they should be bought before spending the rest of points on attributes and skills.

Through merits and traits it is possible to boost attributes to a higher value than the initial limit of 4. Even if this may depend on context.

Scion Merit

The blood of angels is flowing through the veins of d'Angeline nobility, and so - depending on the province of one of a noble's parents taken into account - rare powers can show in the character in question, that go along with certain coded benefits. This merit can only be taken when going through chargen. You can choose only one merit, and it will cost 10 points! An overview over the merits and their benefits is given below.

These are bonuses that will be applied automatically to rolls when the enhanced attribute is involved. Certain merits require a Composure +roll on the part of the party that is to be affected.

The benefits below apply whenever you have to do a +roll of that attribute, or a skill that has this particular area set as +rulingattr.

Merit Province Attribute Bonus
Eisheth Eisande Reaction
Naamah Namarre Presence
Kushiel Kusheth Presence
Shemhazai Siovale Mind
Camael Camlach Body
Azza Azzalle Reaction
Anael l'Agnace Body

There are further powers though, that add more color to the merit and also can occasionally can grant more of an advantage in plots. Use of these further powers need permission by staff (through page or request), and are only punctually granted for one time use in scenes, depending on context. Depending on the Scion merit in question, expect staff to be present in a scene to observe when you are applying such a power.

Courtesan Trait

Even at the point of creation, courtesan characters may have already gone trough their phases of training and experience, thus enabling them to choose one or two House Traits.

Adepts get to take a salon trait, and fully marqued courtesans a second trait to reflect the benefits of their experience and training. Each time this will earn them a +1 (or a +2) on the respective skill. These bonuses are accumulative. A Lis d'Or courtesan, for example, may have a +2 in Dahlia trait which gives a bonus to Composure. Or a +1 bonus in Composure and a +2 in harp playing (Eglantine). A +1 bonus can also in some cases be earned for an attribute, with respective trait and at the cost of both steps in training.

Please note that Background skills will receive a double bonus, as they are less costly to raise.

Here's a list of Courtesan traits:

Salon Trait Benefit
Lis d'Or Dahlia Composure +1
Lis d'Or Cereus Politics +1
Lis d'Or Camellia Presence +1*
Lis d'Or Eglantine Performance Specialty/Art form +2
Rose Sauvage Mandrake Intimidation +2
Rose Sauvage Valerian Body +1* (Endurance, stamina)
Rose Sauvage Alyssum Subterfuge +2
Coquelicot Gentian Persuasion +2 (Opening the Mind to Dreams)
Coquelicot Balm Medicine +1
Coquelicot Heliotrope Empathy +2 (Bonus to Perception rolls)
Glycine Bryony Gambling +2
Glycine Jasmine Seduction +2
Glycine Orchis Performance +2 (Mood Lightening)

*) Attribute bonus will require trait level 2 to take effect.

When creating a courtesan character of higher status than novice, you can choose courtesan traits during chargen. Keep in mind that traits are limited to the salon, or the background of the character. Some traits require more time than others.

Courtesan Traits won't cost you any points. They are gained through IC achievement, and can even be added at a later point.

Earning a trait after getting approved will be handled in requests.

Any benefits earned will have to be added manually to rolls, at this point. For example, '+roll Seduction +4' (Jasmine, level 2); '+roll Medicine +1' (Balm, level 1).

Cassiline Trait

Cassilines go through many years of training to learn a superior fighting style that aims solely towards protecting their charge. When in combat, they will draw attacks on their charge upon their own person and receive bonuses to their defense.

Cassilines will have completed their training in their monasteries, before they will enter play. Thus, the Cassiline trait must be taken in chargen. Like with courtesan traits, it doesn't cost you any points.

Special Gifts

There are concepts that require a special gift, such as courtesans of Gentian canon, Tsingani with the gift of Dromonde and Alba- or Eire-based characters with the gift of True Dreams. You need to set these gifts in chargen, and they will cost 5 points.

Oneiromancy (Gentian)

This is the ability to enter dreams of a patron sleeping close by, to witness those dreams and to read their meaning. It is the one thing that makes House Gentian on Mont Nuit in the Capital so attractive for people seeking answers to their questions and problems. In Marsilikos, this particular niche is filled by a few courtesans at Le Coquelicot.

Dromonde (Tsingani) and True Dreams (Alban/Eiran)

This is not so much about entering dreams of others, but the skill to have 'true dreams', the gift of clairvoyance. These can be anything from nebulous visions to more precise glimpses of the future.

Occupation Gift Cost
Gentian novice/adept/courtesan Oneiromancy 5 points
Tsingani with the skill Dromonde 5 points
Characters of Alban or Eiran blood True Dreams 5 points

The Marque

This is the art of the salon or house that will be inked onto the back of an adept while working towards that point of life where they can choose to remain with their salon, go independent or even leave service to Naamah. In our game the state of progress is given in percent.

Only adept characters need to set this, fully marqued courtesans in CG don't, as they already have reached their 100 percent there.

The Special Merit room in chargen is the only place where players can set the marque themselves. After chargen, marque progress and setting the marque for newly debuted characters will be handled by staff.
