Gambling Hall — La Glycine

The Gambling Hall of La Glycine dazzles on first entry with cut crystal chandeliers which catch the soft light and set the place sparkling. Beneath four of the largest chandeliers are wide octagonal gaming tables in glistening, polished mahogany, inset with a panel of gently padded green velvet to provide easier gaming surfaces for dice, cards or dominoes. Seating is the height of luxury, deep, buttery leather chairs, lounges, loveseats, for any who want to play or watch, alone, or with company. Along the left wall of the room, a raised mahogany platform swells with a sultry curve, a massive spinning wheel attached to the lefthand wall closer to the door, pie-slices of variegated silks making a striking display of fluttering colors when the wheel spins. Three different indicators chime as they're plucked by the pegs which separate out each segment of the wheel, creating a musical whirling to drive up anticipation of what color might land at what indicator — and who might have to pay what penalty in this particular game.

Beyond the curve of the swollen stage on the northern wall a short passage with three stairs leads down into a more dimly lit chamber. The floor is rugged, rusticated stone rather than the polished mahogany and soft carpets of the antechamber. The couches are of the same buttery leather, arranged around a wide but shallow squared pit, around which velveteen cords have been strung from a series of posts. A massive chalkboard on the southern wall lists upcoming fight nights and events, turtle races, greased pig wrangling, mud wrestling, sparring with swords between members of the nobility. Odds are posted for wins, as well as other myriad possibilities for each event. The books are tended and the odds adjusted twenty four hours a day by one of Bryony's courtesans, so the fun here is not limited to events themselves.

The hour is late, and yet there are a number of visitors at the gambling hall, entertaining themselves with cards and available Glycines. Laughter and giggles fill the air, and a general mood of merriment and entertainment. Ysabelet makes her rounds about the tables, having just emerged from the atrium. She wears a gown of suitable allure, while not being overly risky. Her back is fully covered, and the dip at the front more than gives away a mere promise of curves. Blonde hair has been gathered and pinned in a fashionable manner, and she smiles, taking a glass of joie from a tray carried by a passing novice.

It's never too late for a party! Boniface arrives, dresses in stylish dark colored silks accented with his ever present joyful smile. indeed, that bright expression is the most noteworthy thing about the young noble. He -does- seem to be looking for someone though, bright eyes scanning the crowd.

Ysabelet shouldn't be hard to miss. Even if she today is not outfitted in a similar sparkling manner as had been the case on her debut night. There is no golden sheen to her skin, nor is there expensive jewelry that dangles from her ears and wrists. Taking a sip from her joie, her blue eyes are already focusing on the new arrival, and she strolls nearer, with Night Court trained grace. "Good evening, my lord. Is there anything I can help you with?", she wonders. "You look like you have been looking for someone?"

Sadly, Boniface missed the debut, and in fact the young vicomte has been absent from the Night Court and perhaps the city for the past few weeks. And while he doesn't see the person he's looking for, Bonbon doesn't seem to mind being greeted by Ysabelet. "Hello there!" he greets in return, his voice bright and musical, "I am, but I don't see her here tonight."

"Who might it be?" Ysabelet raises a brow, as she lets her gaze drift this way and that way. Curious. "Well…" Her shoulders lift in a light shrug, as her attention turns towards the young lord standing before her. "Would you like something to drink, while you are looking?", she wonders, lifting her glass. "By the way… I don't think we have met before, as I certainly would remember. I am Ysabelet."

Boniface frequent this particular salon, of course, but he doesn't usually pay attention to Novices, so this is indeed his first time meeting the young adept. "I'm certain we haven't. A pleasure to meet you, I'm Boniface." He casts. glance around the room again before focusing his attention on her. "I thought I'd see if I could catch Avelina, but it doesn't look like she's here."

"She isn't," Ysabelet replies, shaking her head with some amusement visible in her eyes. "Now… will that make you leave? Or seek entertainment with another? Are you a gambler of sorts?", she wonders, taking another sip from her glass, her eyes eagerly studying the charming lord. "I can offer a game of cards or dice. Or even Kottabos, if you like. "Lord Boniface." She smiles, as if she had just managed to place him correctly. "Aren't you the young Vicomte d'Orange? A pleasure to meet you."

If Boniface is disappointed at the news, he hides it well, his bright smile not dampening for a momment. "Oh, I like both cards -and- dice," he admits, "And games are fun, no matter who you play them with!" It would seem, he's staying. When she pegs him though, he makes a little bit of a face. "Yes, yes, that's me. Don't remind me!"

"Oh, I am sorry," the Glycine says with a grin. "I shan't remind you again. Lord Boniface then?" Her free hand reaches out to take his arm and guide him gently over to a vacant table. "Would you like to play? It is gambling, you came here for, is it? And company?" Her blue eyes glitter as she regards him. "I believe right now I have already won a wager." Her hand lifts and she indicates a female Glycine a few tables away. "Lucille over there has wagered I wouldn't be able to have someone at my table within half an hour. I mean… someone as young and handsome as you are. We have some older gentlemen coming over quite frequently," she confides with a cheeky grin.

"Boniface is fine. Don't really care too much about titles when I'm out to have fun," the reluctant vicomte points out with just a little bit of a smirk. He studies her in return before he gives a little shrug of his shoulders. "Yes, sure. Let's play then. I'm sure you'll be fun!"

"You may call me Ysabelet. Some of my friends call my Ysa for short," which sort of includes him into that circle, should he feel so inclined. The Glycine smiles. "Boniface. Shall we play cards? Shall we make a gamble of drawing cards by turn, and the highest three win? And the winner…" She gives him an amused look, "may suggest the next game we can play after that."

"Ysa then," Boniface says, clearly jumping -straight- to friend status. He gives her a little nod of his head, before grinning. "Sounds fun for a warmup. Please.. lead on, mlle." While he seems to shy away from his own title, he does remain.. well, somewhat polite!

Ysabelet takes the cards and shuffles the deck.

The Glycine adept produces a deck of cards and starts to shuffle it before Boniface on the table. "Three cards. Three turns. Meaning. I'll draw a card, then you. And then it's me again." She smiles as she lays out the cards spread into a fan on the table, with the cards facing downwards. "I'll take this one."

Ysabelet draws a card from the deck.

Ysabelet reveals the following cards:

  • 6 of Clubs

Boniface draws a card from the deck.

She places the card on the table before her, revealing the 6 of Clubs. "Chances are, you'll beat me this round."

Boniface laughs softly. "I hope not," he says, as he reaches out to draw a card, and amused expression on his face, his eyes lighting up when he sees said card, "In my experience.. its often much more fun to -lose- here." Still, he turns over his card, the Queen of Hearts.

Boniface reveals the following cards:

  • Queen of Hearts

Ysabelet discards a card and puts it on the stack.

"You win the first turn," Ysabelet states with a smile and puts her first card away to the side. "But maybe, this turn, I'll get lucky."

Ysabelet draws a card from the deck.

Ysabelet reveals the following cards:

  • 7 of Hearts

Her smile turns into a slight pout. "Ah… no. Actually… this one isn't much better than my previous one." She reveals the 7 of Hearts, then looks expectantly over to Boniface.

Boniface draws a card from the deck.

Boniface laughs softly as he takes the next card, looking at with a serious expression. "If this card is higher, than I win, right?" he says, his tone grave, before he flips the card over… showing a 4. Of Clubs to be exact. "Looks like you're still in the game."

Boniface reveals the following cards:

  • Queen of Hearts
  • 4 of Clubs

Boniface discards a card and puts it on the stack.

Boniface discards a card and puts it on the stack.

Ysabelet discards a card and puts it on the stack.

Ysabelet draws a card from the deck.

"We are going by values, not by colors," Ysabelet explains. "Only in the case if there are two cards of the same value, the higher color wins." She smiles. "Yes. I believe this means that I win this round. And now, the last and all deciding turn." She draws a third card after putting her second away. "Oh. 6 of Spades." She presents the card to Boniface. "There are pretty high chances of you beating this one with your next."

Ysabelet reveals the following cards:

  • 6 of Spades

Boniface draws a card from the deck.

Boniface laughs softly. "But what if both cards are black?" he says, after drawing his card and looking at it. He doesn't reveal it right away, instead just flashing the suite- clubs again, and there are pips so it's not a face card. After a moments hesitation, he shows all of it. Its a five. "It looks like you win."

Boniface reveals the following cards:

  • 5 of Clubs

"I win," Ysabelet agrees with a grin, gathering the cards into a neat little deck again she places onto the table. "So… I get to suggest the next game to play?"

"I believe that was the wager," Boniface says, smirking a little bit more as he finds his eyes drawn by the motions of her fingers, the sweep of the cards.

"What if that game would require us to withdraw to somewhere more private?", the adept wonders, raising her gaze from the cards to regard Boniface. "I've already complimented you on your youth and good looks. And one does not wander into La Glycine without hoping for certain… more intimate diversions. But perhaps I am mistaken." She sets the deck of cards aside. "There are some games that would be too scandalous to play here in the gambling hall. Such as… playing cards with the loser of a round discarding one piece of garment at a time."

"I've played that game before, and its as much fun to win as it is to lose," Boniface admits, before giving a vigorous nod of his head, "Sure, lets go somewhere quiet so we can play… those.. sort of games!"
