Port - Marsilikos

Fortune laid the foundation for the grand port of Marsilikos; look how the arms of the land spread wide to embrace the setting of the sun, welcoming a bay of still waters rendered all the more peaceful by the presence of a small island to the south, on the flanks of which the waves cut themselves into powerless ripples as they move in from the sea. But what Fortune gave the D'Angelines their cunning and craft has improved to a hum of efficiency and culture. The natural bay has had its curved shores sharpened into straight edges bolstered with ridges of heavy stones on which the tides have left long mark when the waters are low, algae and barnacles hung onto the rugged stones. Then stone foundations have been piled out into the harbor to hold up wide wooden pillars and the great treated slats of the piers and boardwalks which extend into the bay, now at wider intervals for massive trading vessels, now at shorter intervals for private fishing and pleasure yachts.

The southern arm of the bay is reserved for the great sourthern fleet of the Terre D'Angan Navy, which is headquartered here in Marsilikos, and is ever a hub of activity, the giant slips outfitted to haul the massive warships up into the air for repairs, while further inland on the southern peninsula a forest of masts rises into the air where new ships are being built and old ones repaired in full drydock. Between the naval slips and the drydock rises the stately edifice of the Southern Naval Headquarters, glistening with huge latticed windows on the upper floors. Beyond the headquarters rises the massive fortified promontory of the Citadel, with bleached-white parapets and fluttering banners.

Markets and vendors throng the plaza at the innermost fold of the harbor where civilian and military seamen alike might find a bite to eat, supplies for their next mission, a good drink or a little bit of companionship. Far in the bay, that little isle sports a lofty lighthouse to guide the ships in by night.

It is a spring morning. The weather is cool and clear.

It is a fair morning, one that none could ask any better. Word has come to the Ambassador's Quarters that a particular ship was spied in the distance, making it's way towards the dock. With word sent over to the Rousse estates to let Drake know, Rajiya dresses and heads down with her guards. Sure, she gets here early, the ship still a distance away, but growing ever closer. Hands clasped before her, stained in lovely designs, she fidgets a little in excitement. It's been some time since she has seen her family, and within the hour, she will get to hug them!

As for the ship, it's large, and flies the flag for Bhodistan. People can be spied moving about, the crew taking care of sails, gauging the wind, and making ready to pull into dock. There's a few others that might be seen standing at the rails, watching their approach, their dress to favor those worn by the Princess who waits ever so patiently upon the dock.

-

Drake has arrived in the port on foot, perhaps not wanting to engulf his future relatives with the odour of horse or… not being in a hurry. He did dress carefully, in finest dragon-blood red, smells very expensive and yet seems uncharacterically quiet when he joins his princess. "Got your message.", is all he says, squinting at the ship.

-

When he arrives, Rajiya rounds upon him, a beaming smile upon her lips, "They are almost here!" Unconsciously, she reaches for one of his hands, to lace her fingers with his. The smell of apples is strong about her this morning, the scent fresh and crisp in the spring air, a certain show of her excitement at having her family there in Marsilikos. A glance to the ship, and then back tohim as she leans in to kiss his cheek, soon to murmur, "And they are bringing my gift to you for our wedding." A secret she's been keeping from him!

-

"So I see.", Drake replies, still rather quiet. She'll notice that his hand feels cold to the touch too, despite the warmth of the morning. "A gift?", he asks, looking a little surprised, although it's soon replaced by the fretful look he's had since he arrived.

-

Rajiya tilts her head, eyes squinting a little at his response, as much from the temp of his hand in hers, to the expression upon his face, "Is… all well?" She wonders, perhaps a touch worried now about him - could he be ill in some way? But seh nods her head, that smile returning, "A breeding pair of zebras from my uncle's own herd, with the promise of a few more to widen the bloodlines if you'd like, in the future?" Surely having his own stripy horses will make him smile??

-

"Yes, all is well.", Drake assures her and even manages to produce a smile in his effort to calm whatever worry she may have. At least the talk of zebras distracts him and he blinks. "Zebras? The… black and white horses? With the stripes? Coming here?", he asks and suddenly looks like a child on christmas morning.

-

He doesn't completely reassure her, but Rajiya will let him be for now, instead, sharing the news of her gift. And /that/ response is everything she could hope for. Bobbing her head, she laughs, "Yes. A male and a female that you can breed. They have had one foal already, so they are established as a pair." That's always important. "I wrote Mama.. I hope you like them? And she's bringing my pets as well, though not my elephant.." She's rambling a little in her excitement, another glance taken towards the ship that has come closer. Soon it will be sailing into it's assigned berth at the docks.

-

"I… wow. But will they be happy here?", he worries, "Is the weather alright for them? What do they eat? Are they just like our horses?" At least he can now worry about his stripey horses instead of having to make a good impression on his future in-laws. In fact he finally peers at the ship again, perhaps to see what animals he can spot.

-

"They should be? They'll need good stables for the winter, but they have grown up in Bhodistan, bred from a pair from beyond Meneket." Rajiya answers, smiling still, "And they eat much the same that horses do?" If there's any change of diet needed, there will be instructions, not to mention, the stablehand that will be accompanying them here to get them settled, before returning to Bhodistan with her parents when they leave. Following his gaze to the ship, she bounces a little, lifting a hand to wave to those standing at the rail, who eventually wave back. It might be hard to see features, but it's plain to see two males and a female there. No animals on the deck, likely still held down below until they make dock.

-

"I see… well… I'm sure it can be arranged. Just have to make sure they are safe and happy.", Drake muses and falls silent again when the ship is docking and the people on deck start waving. "Your parents?", he asks, without turning his eyes away from the ship. After a moment he lifts his hand as well for a single brief wave of hello.

-

"There will be someone who is accompanying them, one of my uncle's stablehands, who can train someone in your stables on how to care for them." Likely will have to send Chetana over to act as translator between them. Rajiya nods, "Aye.. and a cousin.. the one who will be taking my place as ambassador." She isn't quite sure just who it is as of yet. Soon, the ship is nudging up to the dock, and the activity there by the crew becomes a bit more hectic as lines are thrown down to those on the docks, and the ship is anchored, and the sails downed and rolled. Before long, the gangplank is being lowered and preparations for those aboard to disembark are made. His betrothed is positively humming with excitement, but not moving closer - no wish to get in the way.

-

While Rajiya is getting more and more excited, Drake clams up again. Standing rigid beside her, he watches the preparations and waits for the first people to come off the ship. Which, of course, are sailors, making sure the gangplank is solid and fixed, before the nobles from Bhodistan will step onto it. When finally the first people in Bhodistani outfits appear, he gulps and bops up and down on his feet a little, trying for some silent pep talk to himself.

-

Those first two off the ship is one man of obvious Bhodistan heritage, and a woman who cannot be anything but d'Angeline. It's obvious as well that Rajiya is related to both. With one last squeeze of his hand, she releases it to hurry forwards, speaking rapidly in Bhodistani to the pair, her voice light and even more enchanting than normal with her happiness. Hugs are exchanged between the trio amongst the conversation, along with kisses of greeting. The other, younger male, lags a little behind, allowing the parents and daughter to have their moment before Raj finally spies her cousin. A cry of happiness, and there is more hugging, more conversation, more kisses of greeting to be exchanged. Soon, however, the princess will turn to look to Drake, and will lead them over to him, "Mama, Poppa, cousin.. it is my pleasure to introduce to you my husband-to-be, Drake Rousse, the Vicomte de Draguignan." To him, she then smiles, "Beloved, let me introduce you to my parents, Prince Suresh Jadeja and Princess Mirabelle de Somerville Jadeja, and my cousin, Prince Sudhir Jadeja."

While Suresh stands aside, it is Mirabelle that will step forwards first and may surprise him with a kiss of greeting, if he would allow, "It is a pleasure to finally meet the one who captured my daughter's heart." It's easy to see where Raj gets that enchanting voice from, and the scent of apples, for both cling to the older Sommerville woman.

-

Drake waits patiently while Rajiya greets her family, glad to let her have this moment while he studies his future in-laws. By the time he's pulled closer to the group, he's composed enough to offer a deep formal bow, first to the prince of Bhodistan, as befits his rank, then to his wife and the cousin. "It is a great honour to welcome you in Marsilikos - and Terre D'Ange.", he greets, "And an even greater pleasure to meet you." And then he's kissed. Eek! But it goes a long way to making him feel more at ease.

-

Mirabelle chuckles softly as she steps back, her gaze to linger on the young lord before her. "It is good to be back on the shores of Terre d'Ange. I have not been home since…" She hmms, glancing to her husband, "Not since we traveled here to visit my family on our honeymoon, yes?" It is given a nod by her husband, "Yes, not since then. I believe our travels were then to Ch'in and other countries." The man's accent is thicker, though he speaks d'Angeline quite fluently. As for her cousin, the bow is returned in kind with a quiet, "A pleasure to meet you, soon-to-be-cousin." The young prince flashes a grin, "I have heard much about this land, and perhaps we might talk sometime?" He seems about the same age as Drake.

-

"Of course, gladly.", Drake assures his future cousin with a smile. He starts to losen up now that the first introductions have been made. "I trust you will want to rest and refresh yourself in your quarters?", he suggests, "Tonight you shall be my guests at Rousse mansion for a welcoming dinner."

-

There are nods to his question about freshening up, the invitation accepted as well. It is Suresh that does bring up one thing, "I know two others who will be happy to see you, daughter. And.." To his future son-in-law, he continues, "And another two who will need some stabling?"

Rajiya bounces a little more, "You did manage to bring both Sariko and Gowri?" Oh, how she has missed her dear pets! Her mother nods, turning back to the ship where it would seem another handler is arriving with two cages in hand. In one, is a rather lovely bright colored bird. In the other, a white… monkey. The question is, has Drake seen a monkey before?? Again, she speaks up in her native tone, and at the sound of her voice, both bird and monkey show excitement, squawking and chittering.

-

Drake has seen monkeys both in Marsilikos and Tiberium. Travelling circuses, street artists and so on. Yet, seeing one up close like this is a surprise. "This is… your…pet?", he asks, eyeing the monkey, "He'll… live with us?"

-

There's a soft gasp from Rajiya as she nears the handler, soon to spy not one, but two parrots in the cage, "Sariko has a mate?" She questions, turning to her mother with a happy smile. The two parrots are happy, hopping about in their cage, the grey-headed green bird far happier to see the princess. Laughing at his comment, she turns to him, "Gowri is mine, yes. He is trained very well." Now, within the cage is not your normal colored monkey but an albino, likely one considered special with it's white hair and pink eyes. Her fingers touch the cage, touched by the monkey within who chitters, soothed by her nearness. "Come to me.." She murmurs, opening the cage's door, and soon climbed by the monkey within to sit on her shoulder calmly.

-

Drake looks slightly alarmed when the monkey is let out of the cage, perhaps convinced it will go on the rampage. But it does not. So he just watches, trying to digest the fact that he isn't only acquiring in-laws but pets as well. Strange pets. He decides to look at the parrots instead that look pretty and apparently stay in their cage.

-

Returning to stand before him, Rajiya introduces him to the monkey on her shoulder - not her back! "Drake this is Gowri. He's been with me for a few years. He is very well mannered.." Much like the little dogs that some ladies might have around town or at home. And indeed, the monkey is quite well mannered, having calmed down as soon as he was set loose and able to claim his seat on her shoulder, his tail to half wrap about her neck. "You are welcome to pet him if you'd like?" The offer is made before she glances to her parents, "I have rooms set up for you here at the Ambassador's quarters near my own." And there are carriages waiting to take them there.

-

"A monkey in Tiberium once stole my sandwich.", Drake points out his rather complicated relationship to primates and eyes Gowri for a bit before he gingerly extends an index finger for the monkey to grip, if he feels like it. Petting? Not yet."

-

Amused are her parents and cousin as they watch this introduction to Rajiya's pet, her mother speaking up, "It is surprising that your home is not overrun with pets already. Raj could never leave an animal behind without a home back in Bhodistan. " There is a pause, "Except for snakes, of course." With good reason! Her cousin even speaks up, "The harem learned very quickly whom would be quick to offer to tend the animals when none of them wanted to do such things."

As for Gowri, the monkey is as well mannered as described, and when offered the finger, takes hold of it in one paw before leaning in to rub his cheek against it like a feline might. "So, shall we?" She asks of him then, indicating the wish to head out, and to arrange for the delivery of the zebras that will no doubt, earn some stares from those within Marsilikos.

-

"Well, I've never been much of a pet owner. The horses and dogs at home quite suffice.", Drake replies, and, trying to extricate his finger from the monkey, so they can get moving, adds: "But of course all pets are welcome. It will be fun. Probably." He gives Rajiya a look: "Did you warn the servants?"

-

"You will learn.." Of course he will! Rajiya laughs softly as she turns, glancing over her shoulder to her parents as they follow them, "I had not told the ones at the Rousse estates.." It totally slipped her mind! "But the ones within the quarters knows.." Not that she will be there long, right? "At least it is but the birds and Gowri here.." Surely the tiger or elephant would have been even more a stir!

-

"Well, you should tell them.", Drake points out, seeing at Rajiya and the zoo will be moving into Rousse Mansion. Note he isn't offering. He'll sit back and enjoy the drama. He starts walking with them as they slalom their way through the docks to where the carriages are waiting and tries his hand at small talk. "Did you have a good journey?"

-

"I will, later today." Oh, yes, there might be some drama to be watched! Hopefully, not too much! Rajiya falls quiet as he speaks up, and it is Suresh that answers, "It was a pleasant journey for the most part. We ran into a little bit of weather.." He'll speak of the areas, even mentions pirates that were spied in the distance, their ship able to outrun them with no issues. His stripy horses might have been stolen then! "The city appears bigger since the last time we were here." He might remark as they make their way towards the carriages.

-

"Yes, Marsilikos is growing all the time, it's a popular town with all the trade coming through the port.", Drake explains, finding it easier to chat now, "Of course we'll be happy to show you around, if you like."

-

"I would very much like that." Says the cousin from the back, that easy grin of his flashed, "My aunt has spoken to me much about your religion and views on things to help me prepare for the position here.." And like any young man, he is likely eager to see what sort of.. trouble.. he might find as well.

"I am curious about any Sommervilles who might be in town." So says Mirabelle, who seems eager to reconnect to family if able.

As for Suresh, the man seems content to follow his wife, though he does ponder, "I remember a place we ate at that was quite lovely." A pause, and the man adds, words directed to Drake, "Not to say your cook at the esate is not good."

-

That is a lot of talk to process and since he can't help with Somervilles or dining establishments visited years ago, he decides to focus on the cousin, who he CAN help. "Of course, I can take you to visit the temples and the salons, if you like.", he offers, "It can be very educative. And fun.", he adds with a wink.

-

At the promise of the visits to both temples and salons, Sudhir nods, "I will hold you to that promise, and look forwards to them." Oh yes, this cousin of hers might get along too well with Drake. Rajiya might be in trouble.

As they reach the carriages, Rajiya will take one with him, along with the cages, though will be dropped off at the Ambassador's Tower, a kiss given to him before he might leave to perhaps prepare for the arrival of his stripy horses to his stables! Her parents and cousin will follow in the second carriage. Eventually will the zebras be led through town once they are unloaded safely from the ship. The afternoon will be spent preparing for the evening's meal.
