Solar — Ducal Palace — Marsilikos

Spacious enough to provide a meeting place of more familiar atmosphere to the residents of the Ducal Palace, the solar is of rectangular shape and generously lit during the day through a number of arched windows in the south wall. The opposite side is governed by a huge stone hearth, a fire crackling there during colder weather conditions. Above the hearth hangs a shield with the coat of arms of House Mereliot, flanked by a pair of exquisitely woven tapestries depicting naval scenes of ships on the sea, one in calm and tranquil weather conditions, the other one in a storm with heavy rain.

All furniture is made of oak, be it the long table in the middle of the room, or the number of high backed chairs arranged about it, flat cushions of blue brocade adding to the comfort of seating. The ceiling is a sophisticated rib vault, constructed of wood, the ribs painted in yellow. Depictions of a variety of sea animals have been added onto the light blue ceiling as well by an unknown artist. Several kinds of mediterranean fish adorn the spaces in between ribs, such as combers, groupers and flounders but also starfish and octopuses.

A door leads out onto a rooftop garden, and an archway opens into the upper hallway.

A few promising young ladies are to be considered today at the Ducal Palace, and so Evelyne has been sent here by her boring aunt and her strict uncle, a guard in Somerville greens and whites coming along to escort her all the way up the hill to the impressive Dome of the Lady. Evelyne is a good rider, and she would have preferred to ride all the way up, but her aunt had denied her that wish. "Her Grace wants to ensure that young ladies waiting on her are of healthy disposition!" A statement, that made Eve roll her eyes - and obey. At least the weather is good and fair as usual for a day in mid-June, and so she goes for that walk, attired in a fine dress of green and white, both in bodice and skirts, her blonde hair done orderly with a few hair pins, her grin slightly mischievous as she at least tries to flirt a little with the guard, who to her dismay proves almost as stoic as a Cassiline.

Evelyne is shown to a room upstairs, the solar, where she sits down on a couch and folds her hands all orderly in her lap.

A young woman steps into the the spacious Solar of the Ducal Palace. Curiosity in her dark brown eyes outshines warm sun rays of spring. She moves slowly and feels no shame to turn around few times, obviously showing that she is here for the first time. Her long ginger puffy skirt almost sweeps the floor when Irene walks, but her corset is very tight around slim frame. The corset is of the same color as the skirt but is adorned by a couple of gems and floral ornaments. The shade of the young woman's clothes makes a light spring's tan become a bit more visible what speaks of Irene's days spent outside.

Just after her eyes explore decorations of a new room, Irene looks at those present and offers a smile to another lady she has never seen. Irene d'Eresse finds herself a seat not very far away from another lady but also not too close in order to have comfortable freedom around herself. She also folds her hands all orderly in her lap but she also turns toward another and speaks, "Morning."

A healthy complexion is what Evelyne can call her own as well. The blonde l'Agnacite looks up and smiles, and in tilting her head a bit to the side considers the brunette in her ginger colored attire. "That's a fine dress," Eve tells her even before the other lady greets her. And even if she tries to appear composed, there is a faint scent of apples lingering in the air. "Morning," this added likewise, when Evelyne returns said greeting, and she lifts her hand to check on that carefully done hair. "By Elua… I feel like a prize horse." And just as she mentions it, a strand of blonde hair tumbles free. "I am Eve. Evelyne Marie de Somerville," she introduces herself then, even as she tries to fidget that strand back into place. "And I am here because my family wishes of me to present myself to the Duchesse."

Irene bites her bottom lip holding up a chuckle but the way corners of her eyes wrinkle speaks of the amusement she is having. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Lady Evelyne. Forgive me for my curiosity but is that only your family who wants that you would be presented to the Duchess?" There is a small surprise in Irene's intonation. She calmly leans back in her seat and brushes off a wrinkle from her skirt. But then her hands stay calmly resting in her lap, completely assured that her braids are perfectly tied into a neat bun. "If not this, what would you prefer doing, m'lady?"

"My family thinks this is a good idea, yes.", Evelyne replies, and her lips press together for a moment, forming a line. "My father. My uncle. My aunt." Her shoulders lift and fall in a shrug. "It's not like I never have seen a big city before. I was in Elua a year ago. It was nice there." Her eyes crinkle at the corners. "I liked it, but father decided it wasn't right for me." At which her blue eyes narrow a little, and Evelyne adds, "That's all I can tell you, at least for now. Who are you, and what are you doing here? Have you been sent here by your family as well?"

"Ah! Forgive me," Irene gasps bringing her hand to a chest, "I completely forgot my manners! I am Irene d'Eresse and I came here to stay with my brothers. My mother wanted that I would come here as well but I didn't feel that she forced me to go. Completely opposite, I was excited to come back. I was visiting my brothers before and being far away from them is not what I want to do. I feel attached to both of them…" the young woman makes a pause here and grows a bit thoughtful. But after a moment she explains, "even if I know one way better than the other. I am also turning eighteen next month. I would love to meet Duchess myself and start working for my own personal reputation and good future."

"Irene d'Eresse," Evelyne repeats with a smile. "Your family is one of the local Eisandine families. Well, you are fortunate. My two older brothers are in Elua, and enjoying themselves greatly.", she says, rolling her eyes just so. "But yes… I expect it shall be interesting." There is a light twitch of a brow when Irene mentions her reputation and future, but nothing more. "I have yet to turn eighteen as well. In October.", is admitted then, with a fine smile. "Can you tell me anything of the Night Court of Marsilikos? I heard there are a few salons, but far less than what is offered in the Capital?"

"I have never been in the city of Elua. How different is it from Marsilikos? I would like to hear more if you don't mind sharing your knowledge with me," Irene smiles at the other lady and is quick to answer another question, "Actually, as far as I know our Salons were founded by Servants of Naamah that have left the City of Elua. The city your heart already misses. Those who work in our Salons had an exquisite training. So, I am pretty sure that they can offer high quality entertainment. There are Lis d'Or, Rose Sauvage, Coquelicot and Glycine here in Marsilikos. However, I must be honest and tell you that I have not visited any of them yet."

"Ohhh…" Eve shifts in her seat, even as that vowel leaves her lips in a deep and ominous register. "You ask me how different Elua is from Marsilikos? First of all, it is much bigger. Much grander. There is the Royal Court with all those highnesses, Princes and Princesses of the Blood. The Night Court is located on Mont Nuit - a whole hill! Thirteen salons of which I got to see… six." She chuckles and shakes her head, probably at herself. "I am sorry. I have no doubt that the salons of Marsilikos have courtesans of excellent training. But as you haven't visited them yet… perhaps you would be interested in visiting them in the company of… a friend or acquaintance?" The question sounds all innocent, and is offered with a conspiratorial wink. "I would very much like to see for myself."

"I would really like that, Evelyne. May I call you Evelyne? You can just simply call me Irene. Maybe after the visit of Night Court we could visit a restaurant and explore Marsilikos together? I could use a friend of my own age. I've met a few other ladies here but they were older and already in love. While I did manage to have a conversation with one of them and it was absolutely interesting, the other one was just staring at her beloved like a cat would stare at a ham. All she cared was to be pretty and impress him, and charm him," Irene laughs. "It's very hard to strike a conversation when you feel like a fifth leg to a dog and, obviously, a dog has no need of a fifth leg!" She laughs again. A bit too loud and her manner cuts that laugh off in the middle. Irene grows a bit more serious and nods, "But yes, I would like to visit it with you."

"This sounds awful," Evelyne leans in and places her hand upon Irene's lower arm. "Nothing as awful like feeling like a fifth leg," she chuckles. "When you and I visit the Night Court, I'll make sure you will be as delightfully entertained as I. Bah. Love." Again, she shrugs her shoulders. "I have yet to understand the canons of each salon, and what they are here in Marsilikos. I expect a bit of Balm and Eglantine, to be honest. Anything beyond that will certainly be a pleasant surprise. Aww, now that does sound awful again, coming from me." The Somerville extends her hand, reaching for Irene's, if the Eresse lady will allow. "You have my permission to reprimand me, should I speak ill of Marsilikos and what it has on offer. And… speaking of Marsilikos, I shall aim to impress the Duchesse. Would she accept both you and me into her service? It is an inspiring thought!"

Irene nods allowing for the other lady to touch her lower arm. A small gesture of friendliness draws a smile in d'Eresse lady's features. "I can not speak much of what I expect to see here in Marsilikos Night Court. Of course, I have been taught and I know about the structure but I have no judgement of my own. To be very honest, I have never visited any Night Courts before. I was too much focused on learning and sketching, and riding…" She lowers her gaze for a moment and her cheeks bloom in roses when Irene realizes that the other woman might have more experience. Though, the topic of Duchess makes Irene settle in more comfortably and she nods again, "I hope so. I really would love to serve to the Duchess herself. That's what I always wanted and to have such a wonderful companion as you on this would be even better."

"You never…?" And for a moment there is nothing but stunned silence, when Evelyne de Somerville stares at Irene with an expression of utter disbelief. "I mean you… you have already…?" It is hard to put the words and avoid to make them sound like an inappropriate discretion, but there it is, Evelyne's curiosity piqued to a point that she doesn't even mind the attendant entering the solar, when the question bursts out of her, "You aren't meaning to tell me that you're still a virgin?"

The attendant freezes on the spot, eyes lowering to the floor as he pretends just a piece of furniture, before he clears his throat. "Lady Irene d'Eresse, the Duchesse is ready to receive you in a moment."

Irene's cheeks grow from rosy to crimson with each word muttered by Evelyne. The wideness of her eyes when a blunt question is spit out is the best answer to Evelyne's surprise. The young lady looks at the attendant, "Thank you…" She drawls and apologetically peeks back at her new acquaintance. She does not answer to the question vocally but sighs and sheepishly smiles adding, "I have to go now but it was a pleasure to meet you, Evelyne. I can't wait to see what a future holds for us." Then she turns to move toward the attendant.

"Oh…", Evelyne makes, no matter that Irene does not respond to her question. "I mean… Oh!" At which she moves to rise and offers to the brunette Eisandine what appears to be a proper curtsey. "Yes, it's been a pleasure. And if you won't be offended… please let me help you to an… enlightening future. Enlightening indeed…" She smirks, glancing after Irene as she is led out by the attendant. "And good luck! I shall see you later!"
