Background

Iamus does not remember most of his childhood, or know why that is so. But from a fairly young age, he was brought up in the Mont Nuit Gentian house. He knows that in some way, he lost his parents, or they lost hold of him. There have been conflicting rumors about his parentage, whether he was commoner or a nobleman's bastard. The story he has been told is that his mother laid him in a field of violets. Whatever the case, he was taken in by the Gentian house and raised in their ways, to know that rather than solving his own riddle, it is his calling and responsibility to help others solve theirs. He always dreams with them when he can, finding that the way two dreams mesh is the most useful way to unravel the unknown. Opium is highly useful in this pursuit, and he is never without a supply. He has never left the city or pursued any other life than a courtesan's. Fully marqued at nineteen, he has been a full-fledged courtesan for a few years, now.
